HOW DO SAND MITES BITE OUR SKIN?
- Sand mites dig through human skin causing intense itching and inflammation (take note: this is more than just one sand mite on your skin!)
- Extreme cases which lead to infection are usually caused by female sand mites that penetrate the skin, digs a hole in it, and lays eggs inside

Sand Mites? Yikes!
"Sand flies or nik niks"
I have read a few online posts about people being "eaten up" by sand flies or nik niks in the Philippines, especially Palawan Is. As I have o very bod reaction to bites from these bugs, I need to be careful of where I go in the world of tropical beaches. BEET is not an option. Any feedback on the prevalence of these critters in any particular area of the Philippines? We are going for 17 days in April and hope to spend most of our time at beaches and diving.

Both me&my boyfriend have bites from sandflies which we got in Puerto Princesa...i was standing on the road in the morning and was bitten xtimes in just a few minutes. We also went to Pandan Island and got a lot of bites as well. My boyfriend's skin start itching next day, mine in 3 days after. Very itchy, nothing helps 🙁 Anybody knows what helps and how long does it takes that skin stops itching?

Re: sand fiies or nik niks
I just got back from El Nido on Palawan and got destroyed with bug bites. It was only from 1 day, on the most beautiful white sand beaches I have ever been on... but yes, at least 50-60+ bites on my back alone that didn't start to go away for a week and itched like hell. Total body probably about 100. I traveled all throughout the Visayas last year and had no such problem. El Nido, Palawan was my first time encountering such beasts. BE WARNED.
